One fine day in Sydney..

Andy was driving all the way from Tassie to Brissie and stopped over at Sydney on the way up.  We decided to make a detour to check out the Picasso exhibition at The Art Gallery of New South Wales before he left a few days ago.  I've got to say, in all my years in Sydney, I've never been there, not even for a school excursion!

The old sand stone building attracted a huge crowd when it opened at 10am.

We bought the tickets on line the night before and the exhibition is only by timing so we had to be there early to line up.  The exhibition goes until 25 March 2012 so if you can make it, I highly recommend you go see it.  More details can be found here.  It's 10 rooms full of paintings and sculptures and it documents his 7 decades of art contributions to the world.

It was indeed a fine and beautiful day while we were there so we took a walk around Hyde Park and came across this little icon The Sydney Tower.  My first work experience was here at The Summit Restaurant.  It's still going today!

My aunt asked me to come and show her how to debone and stuff a chicken yesterday. Little did I know that she invited all her friends over and we ended up having a cooking class and a huge feast after.  This method of deboning was taught to us at our last class so I didn't get to do it as Dawn was doing the guinea fowl that day so I was glad to have an opportunity to do it here.  It was very easy.  You open the chicken from the back and then slide your knife all around the bone.  You remove the wishing bone and cut open the bones for the 2 wings and legs so that you can release it and form a huge open chicken.  I stuffed it with the minced leg meat, mushrooms, bacon and shallots.  I used the bones as a braising liquid and cooked it in the oven for around 28 minutes.  It was really tender and the chicken and stuffing was delicious.

The lovely chicken, when sliced does not have any bones so it's perfect for dinner parties.

Elsie showed me the City to Surf route yesterday and it sure is windy and hilly!  I don't know how I am going to survive the 14kms in August!  On the way to Bondi Beach, we stopped at Norton St Plaza because I was so hungry.  I finally got hold of a finger bun which is a sweet bun topped with cream and coconut flakes.  From an early age, I always loved eating this so it was very nostalgic to eat one of those again yesterday.  Definately not to be repeated too often as the amount of calories will kill you!

I am heading back to Singapore in a few hours so the journey has come to an end.  It has been a restful trip.  No going out to fancy restaurants except to eat Pho almost every day and taking afternoon naps.  I need to get back to running and training again.  Elsie will help me with that so that I can stay strong and run faster over a longer period.
