Going home..
My trips back to Sydney are often very low key. I don't do very much except catch up on sleep, go shopping and eat. I don't normally eat at any place fancy because I just want to eat food I have not eaten for ages. They are often simple stuff like pho but so damn good!
I always eat this the first day I come back but on this trip, since it was Christmas Eve, I waited until Christmas Day lunch to eat here. It's in an alley way in Flemington and it's the most popular restaurant. It's often packed and they do brisk business. The pho is huge compared to the miniscule servings I have been getting in Bangkok. I ate there 3 times already since I have been home.
I never watch TV in Singapore but when I come home to Sydney, I always park myself in front of the TV and watch all the crime shows on cable. It's truly a time for me to catch up on what's happening. My mum think eating this is healthier than eating chips. I think it makes no difference but I still chow it down.
I like coming home to run because the weather is cooler and there are kms of tracks at the back of our house. I find it very peaceful and quiet and I love the smell of eucalyptus trees. When I run here, I always remind myself that it's time to move home permanently.
As you can imagine, we have quite abit of left overs from Christmas Eve lunch so on Boxing Day, Dad and I were home alone for dinner and I decided to take all the meat and marinated vegetables and make a huge frittata. It was so easy and delicious. I cooked it on low heat over the stove and then finished it off in the oven. We ate almost the entire pan between us.
I love shopping, especially outlet shopping which is non existent in Singapore. I bought these silicone pinch bowls (they are tiny by the way) for Singapore and also for Thai cuisine as they will come in handy when we need to cook with small amounts of spices etc. I bought lots of stuff especially running gear, more Kathmandu fleece tops for my climb on Mt Kinabalu next year and some beautiful dresses which I am only hoping I dont get too fat to wear.
Jenny and I went to watch Mission Impossible tonight. It really was so Hollywood and definately Mission Fizzle! I didn't think anything of it. The jokes and funny comedy didn't really work although Tom Cruise didn't look too bad for a 50 year old. On the way home, she took me to a house that was all lit up with Christmas lights. It was only a few streets from our house and the owner took more than 100 hours to wire all the lights together. It wraps all around their house. I donated some money to their charity which is The Kidney Foundation.
